The Great Belt Fixed link is a multi-element fixed link crossing the Great Belt strait between the Danish islands of Zealand and Funen. It consists of five structures: a road suspension bridge and a railway tunnel between Zealand and the small island Sprogø located in the middle of the Great Belt, and a box girder bridge for both road and rail traffic between Sprogø and Funen. The "Great Belt Bridge" (Danish: Storebæltsbroen) commonly refers to the suspension bridge, although it may also be used to mean the box-girder bridge or the link in its entirety. The suspension bridge, officially known as the East Bridge, has the world's third longest main span (1.6 km), and the longest outside of Asia. It was designed by the Danish engineering firms COWI and Ramboll. The link replaced the ferry ser...

The 2017 American Renaissance Conference: "Turning the Tide." Helmuth Nyborg, professor emeritus of the University of Aarhus, begins by pointing out the clear relationship between distance from the equator and both brain size and intelligence. At or close to the equator, the average IQ is 69, whereas at a latitude of 54 degrees the average is 98. Prof. Nyborg observes that races could be logically be classified as “eco-types,” since their traits reflect the ecological niches in which they evolved. Prof. Nyborg also notes that unlike the north/south gradient in IQ there is no East/West gradient, virtually proving that it is the challenges of a cold climate that have forced northern peoples to evolve higher intelligence and a greater capacity for cooperation. He points out that Arabs have ...
Many US railfans are unfamiliar with the fact that there was a European "F" unit, manufactured under license by NOHAB of Sweden and AFB of Belgium. Long the workhorses of state railways in Norway, Denmark, Belgium & Luxembourg, they even ran behind the Iron Curtain in Hungary through the Cold War. With privatization of the state railways, they have scattered all over Europe. The example shown in this video is owned by CFL Logistics, and is operating on the little used branch to the Koppers plant in Nyborg, Denmark. This involved some side-of-street running through the middle of town, and some actual street running on the road to the plant. Service was down to once per week at the time of our visit in 2013, so being there on the correct day was important.
Just prior to the opening of the Storebelt connection, Danish trains still needed a ferry to run from the capital on the island of Sjaeland on to the main land. We see the ferry terminal in Nyborg on the island of Fyn, that already for long years has a bridge to the mainland. Passing coaches and goods vans is in decline. Notice the triple coach intercity dmu's that allow fast splitting and combining, thus fitting on the ship deck. This ingenious Danish development allows full walk through the length of the train, because of the passage door that can easily be turned aside to make room for a fully equipped driver seat with the necessary head lights built in. Though the intercity offers place to through travelers, many others travel on the ferry a foot, taking a local train or bus from ...

Hotel Review: Hotel Tiffany, Copenhagen, Denmark - January 2016 We stayed at the Hotel Tiffany in Copenhagen for 4 nights bed and breakfast in January 2016. The room cost 2,901 Danish Krone, which equates to around £290. This is actually fairly reasonable for accommodation in Copenhagen, which is quite an expensive city to stay in. The hotel is very close to Copenhagen Central Station, roughly a 7 minute walk away. Upon entering the hotel we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who spoke perfect English (all of the staff I encountered did). We were given a room on the ground floor, at which I was quite disappointed. I always request a room on a high floor, however the type of room I had paid for was ground floor only. My initial disappointment was turned to happiness upon entering th...

After spending 4 days in London it was time to grab the train and make my way to Dublin, Ireland. I was staying at Kip Hotel so I hopped on the Overland train and took it all the way to Euston Station. The train from London went all the way to the ferry terminal in Wales and from there I took the ferry to the terminal in Dublin. It was a pretty easy journey with some incredible scenery along the way and a fairly relaxing trip to reach Dublin from the city center of London. The train left Euston Station in London around 9 in the morning and it was the Virgin Voyageur train that I was on to Holyhead in Wales. The journey took a little bit less than 4 hours and once arriving in Holyhead it was about a 90-minute wait until the ferry left. Ask for the ferry, it was on the Irish Ferr...
